Radiology & Laboratory Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY: The Radiology & Laboratory Assistant will assist the lab and radiology departments to facilitate the flow of patients and their data through the appointment process in accordance with each department’s guidelines. They will perform administrative duties to include checking in the patients, entering orders, printing orders and labels. They will help maintain images, reports, and specimens. They will assists technologist with escorting/transporting patients, room set-up and turnover. Responsible for accurately scanning radiographs and other pertinent documents into systems for reading and/or distribution.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following –
1. Answers department phones directing calls according to the needs and nature of the requests. Makes calls as directed.
2. Effectively interact with customers, suppliers, and all allied departments.
3. Makes CD’s and prepare CD’s for mailing as appropriate.
4. Accurately sends data to PACS and Meditech.
5. Ability to navigate the PACS to find patient images and efficiently resolve RIS/image conflicts.
6. Upload any prior imaging a patient may bring with them to a new exam.
7. When patients have had prior images, contact the facility for electronic transaction for anything pertinent.
8. Work effectively with Meditech, entering orders, printing labels, distributing reports as needed.
9. Send requests for new providers to be added as appropriate.
10. Escort or Transport patient to and from radiology, assisting the technologist as needed
11. Assist with room set-up and/or turnover.
12. Chaperone as appropriate.
13. Stock rooms.
14. Handle delicate and tense issues in a helpful manner in order to objectively solve problems.
15. Follow all safety requirements and regulations that pertain to services performed by the departments.
16. Must be knowledgeable of state and federal confidentiality laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, and be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and instructions regarding the privacy and security of protected health information applicable to the position.
17. Must be able to meet physical demands and working conditions outlined below.
18. Regular and reliable attendance.
19. Other duties as assigned.
OTHER JOB DUTIES:
Knowledgeable of, and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures. Knowledgeable of HIPAA regulations and ensures the confidentiality of patient’s medical, personal and financial records is maintained. Complies with Cherry County Hospital personal policies. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, etc.)
· Previous customer service experience in a healthcare setting, preferred.
· Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred.
· PACS and EMR knowledge and experience, preferred.
